Matt has over twelve years of experience as a turnaround specialist, financial advisor and management consultant. Matt has extensive experience in corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, and performing detailed financial and operational analytics for distressed businesses. He has proven leadership skills and has managed numerous highly successful projects.
Matt often represents underperforming companies, including those in Chapter 11, Chapter 7 or out-of-court restructurings. Matt has played key roles in managing operations and cash flow during the turnaround process for clients in various industries. He has broad experience leading many aspects of bankruptcy proceedings including reporting and court filings, customer and vendor communication programs, preference action recovery negotiations, debtor-in-possession collateral recovery and estate wind downs.
Matt has experience representing non-debtor stakeholders involved in underperforming companies including secured lenders, debtor-in-possession lenders and private equity companies. Matt’s interim management appointments include Manager of Collateral Services of a vacation ownership company and Controller of a distressed asset hedge fund.
Matt also has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, focusing primarily on the sell-side transactions. Matt recently led the divestiture of two business units for a $2 billion consumer products company. He was previously responsible for the investment banking relationship and managing all interested party due diligence requirements of an $80 million European subsidiary of a timeshare company. He was instrumental in the §363 sales of a $75 million manufacturer in the food and beverage industry and a $100 million timeshare operator and land developer.
Prior to Mackinac Partners, Matt served as an independent consultant emphasizing corporate bankruptcy and turnaround management. Earlier, as a management consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers, Matt’s work with Fortune 500 clients focused on supply chain enhancements and merger integration services.
He earned his BA in accounting from Michigan State University and his MBA from the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management at Michigan State. He is a member of the Turnaround Management Association and is a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor (CIRA).
