Melissa Kibler Becomes the First Non-Attorney President of the American College of Bankruptcy

Bloomfield Hills, MI – April 9, 2020 – Mackinac Partners (now Accordion) Senior Managing Director Melissa S. Kibler was elected to serve a two-year term as President of the American College of Bankruptcy (the “College”) at a meeting of the board of directors in March 2020. Kibler previously served as Treasurer and is the first non-attorney and second woman to serve as President of the College. Former President of the College, Mark D. Bloom, was named Chair.

The appointments come at a critical time in the restructuring industry, with companies across a wide spectrum of industries facing significant impacts to revenue and business performance due to effects of the COVID-19 virus.  The Fellows of American College of Bankruptcy, a public service association of bankruptcy and insolvency professionals with a proven record of meeting the highest standards of expertise and service to the profession and their communities, will be at the forefront of efforts to revitalize businesses and address consumer issues in the US and across the globe.

I am extremely appreciative to former Chairs Jan Baker, Michael Cook, Chris Meyer and Mark Levinson, and to new Chair Mark Bloom and all of the College’s leaders, for their confidence and support,” Kibler said.  “Bankruptcy and restructuring will be essential tools to meet the unprecedented economic challenges arising from the ongoing global health crisis; the College and its Fellows will rise to meet those challenges.  Further, the role of the College and its affiliated Foundation as the single largest financial supporter of pro bono consumer bankruptcy services in the United States will be ever more critical to those who are most in need of assistance during these difficult times.

Kibler is a Certified Public Accountant and a highly credentialed restructuring, turnaround and insolvency advisor. She has served in many advisory and C-level restructuring and turnaround roles and has significant experience in insolvency-related investigations and litigation.  She has served in leadership positions at numerous other industry organizations, including as President of the American Bankruptcy Institute, a Director of INSOL International, and Chair of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Bankruptcy Task Force.
