Howard is a Senior Advisor who has over 35 years of experience leading companies, Boards of Directors, clients, creditors and debtors in strategic advisory, M&A activities, joint ventures and integration, litigation matters, turnarounds and restructurings, distressed debt, governmental relations, compliance, financing and capital raising, securities offerings, licensing, and financial and brand performance.

Howard has served as an executive and legal advisor for a number of firms across industries that include: Consumer Products, Technology, Financial Services, Real Estate, Business Services, Resort and Leisure, Automotive, Apparel and Media. In over 30 years of strategic and legal advisory service as a practicing attorney, Howard has received significant industry recognition, including Chambers USA’s America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (2009-2016), The Best Lawyers in America (2010-2017), and Illinois Super Lawyers (2012-2015).

Howard served as EVP and Chief Administrative Officer of Diamond Resorts International, Inc., a global leader in the hospitality and vacation ownership industry with a worldwide network of over 400 vacation destinations located in 35 countries throughout the United States, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Africa. Howard was responsible for corporate development, legal, compliance, risk management, security, and related functions on a global level and was a key part of the senior team that grew corporate EBITDA over 4x from 2012 to 2016.

At Diamond Resorts, Howard also led major strategic and growth initiatives, including the company’s successful 2013 initial public offering and NYSE listing; execution and integration of key acquisitions; creation of an Asian-based joint venture; implementation of an enhanced global compliance program; and the successful sale of the company to affiliates of Apollo Global Management in a $2.2 billion transaction.

Howard has served Of Counsel and as a Senior Partner and Chair of the National Corporate Practice of Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP, a major law firm with offices across the United States and in London and Shanghai. Howard has extensive corporate law experience including facilitating public and private mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings and compliance, financing, joint ventures, and cross-border transactions. He also has significant experience working with distressed/turnaround businesses, their owners, directors, creditors and advisors in delivering stakeholder value across turnaround, restructuring/re-capitalization, and asset sale scenarios.

Howard has served as a counselor and strategic advisor to Boards, Board Committees and senior executives and also as outsourced General Counsel to many clients, acting as principal interface between senior management and both internal and external legal resources.

Howard graduated magna cum laude in 1977 from Amherst College, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received his law degree in 1983 from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was a member of The University of Chicago Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif.

Howard is very active in community and charitable causes, including as a long-time supporter of ORT America, the US fundraising arm of World ORT, the largest education-focused Non-Government Organization in the world.  Every year, ORT provides educational programs to over 300,000 students in over 35 countries. Howard is currently serving as national VP and Treasurer, and Member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
