Jenna Birkhold

Jenna is a Director with 8 years of turnaround and restructuring experience, assisting small, mid-market and large firms identify and remediate causes of immediate and long-term underperformance. Her efforts focus on managing working capital / liquidity and solving mission-critical challenges through insightful financial and operations analyses. She provides crucial support when clients face in-court and out-of-court restructurings, with an eye on maximizing value for stakeholders.

Jenna has worked with clients in a variety of industries including automobile financing, grocery retail, commercial printing, furniture manufacturing, temp staffing, metal fabrication, frozen food production, appliance parts distribution, veterinary practices, technology consulting, not-for-profit / municipal services, clinical studies and HVAC contracting.

She helped shepherd Muji USA, a national brick-and-mortar retailer of Japanese apparel and home goods, through a Chapter 11 reorganization; the filing was precipitated by a steep pandemic-induced sales decline. Ultimately, unprofitable locations were closed or leases were successfully restructured and the company emerged from bankruptcy.

Jenna recently facilitated the wind down of a business with operations in cold storage warehousing and bagged ice sales, distribution and manufacturing. The team was instrumental in managing daily liquidity and communicating with stakeholders, while helping management assess strategic options. The engagement included preparing business plan scenarios, managing wind down activities and monetizing the estate by negotiating the sales of customer accounts and hard assets to third parties.

To achieve successful outcomes, Jenna works hand-in-hand with clients to produce or improve critical reports, including KPI dashboards, budgets, 13-week cash flow forecasts, right size studies, business plans and other analyses.

Prior to joining Accordion/Mackinac, Jenna was an Associate at Phoenix Management Services, a boutique turnaround management and restructuring financial advisory firm. She was previously a consultant at KDFA, a Boston-based risk advisory and services consultancy.

Jenna earned an M.B.A. from Babson College and a B.S. in Political Science from Arizona State University. She is a Certified Turnaround Analyst and a Certified Risk Manager. She is active in the Turnaround Management Association, serving on the Northeast chapter’s Board of Directors and NextGen subcommittee, as well as the national Journal of Corporate Renewal editorial committee. She is also a member of the Association for Corporate Growth and Secured Finance Network.
