On October 20, 2012, Kalamazoo College unveiled its new $16 million sports facility. The Kalamazoo College Athletic Field Complex is the first phase of the College’s strategic plan to enhance its athletic programs. In doing so, the College will serve the needs of its students and create a more vibrant campus environment in order to reach its long-term enrollment goal of 1,500.
A total enrollment at this level will ensure that K can field competitive teams for its variety of sports, as well as fill student leadership positions, performing arts productions, and other key components of campus life. The new complex contains a fieldhouse and a stadium services building, fields for football, soccer/lacrosse, baseball, and softball, as well as a practice field to be used for a range of activities including intramural competitions.
The Kalamazoo College Athletic Field Complex was made possible by the commitment of College leadership to the improvement of this facility and through the philanthropy of many members of K’s community. Jim and Cathy Weissenborn, through Mackinac Partners and Varsity Shop Training Center, generously participated in this project, highlighting their support through the Mackinac Partners Athlete’s Tunnel and the Varsity Shop Training Center’s Batting Cage.
