Child abduction survivor, Elizabeth Smart, was the key note speaker at CARE House of Oakland County’s 16th annual Circle of Friends luncheon held on January 26, 2012 at the Townsend Hotel. The event was generously underwritten by Mackinac Partners of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
Over 350 people attended the sold-out event, humbly listening to the details of Smart’s 2002 abduction from her Salt Lake City home at the age of 14.
“The luncheon is designed to educate and build enthusiasm in the community for the ongoing operation of CARE House’s intervention and prevention programs for child abuse,” said Cathy Weissenborn, interim executive director of CAE House of Oakland County.
The event also honored Pat Rosen, former CEO of CARE House, for her vision passion, and leadership. Weissenborn said, “She led the growth of the agency form a modest former dental office to the beautiful new building. In difficult financial times she raised funds to build a place for broken hearts and souls to heal.”
Smart praised the work of CARE House and its importance in the local Detroit community.
