George has extensive experience in corporate restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, and leveraging complex financial and operational analytics to improve distressed businesses across various industries.

With a background in real estate, George has worked on numerous real estate portfolio restructurings, including the restructuring and asset sales for a $700mm+ in UPB real estate lender. George created complex cash flow models, developed cash management controls, and helped manage the portfolio through a chapter 11 filing. George also recently advised a large private institution equity on the origination of a $100mm line of credit backed by real estate credits, including analysis, underwriting, and due diligence of the underlying collateral.

George played a significant role in the acquisition of two timeshare companies with purchase prices ranging from $75mm to $200mm for one of the firm’s key clients. George was also integral in various aspects of the integration processes helping ensure the success of the transactions.

George also conducted a $40mm recapitalization process for a high end golf course community in Texas including development of a detailed operational and financial assessment of the business.

George has been instrumental in several successful restructuring/advisory engagements in various other industries including recently managing and producing a turnaround plan for a middle market rental services company with $200mm in revenues leading to a successful out of court restructuring with its lenders.

George recently guided a $250MM in revenue optical retailer through near term liquidity restraints while prepping the company for a sale process. George also successfully led a $50M restaurant company through a note sale process maximizing value for the bank while implementing operational and financial initiatives to ensure the Company’s future success. Additionally, George managed the liquidation of a 200+ employee $60mm in peak revenue food manufacturing subsidiary to a cash neutral event for it’s parent company.

Prior to Mackinac Partners, George worked as an acquisitions associate for South Street Partners, a real estate investment and operating company based in Charlotte, NC, underwriting residential and commercial distressed debt and REO deals.

George earned a MBA from Kenan-Flagler Business School with a concentration in finance and real estate. He gained valuable experience as a selected co-manager of KFBS’s $2mm student run real estate private equity fund. As a manager he was responsible for deal sourcing, valuation analysis and due diligence.

Between his first and second year of business school, George worked at Cousins Properties in Atlanta, GA as a summer development associate. He was assigned to a $100mm+ mixed use redevelopment project in Chapel Hill, NC. In addition, he played a critical role in a bank commissioned valuation of a $3bn office portfolio.

His career began in Southeast Asia where he developed resort residential real estate. As a partner in a small Thai development company, he gained experience in all aspects of international real estate development. His duties included concept generation, budgeting and marketing.

George also earned an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of North Carolina.
